Scarce breeding birds
This category consists of 18 species, all annual but few, and/or with a very limited breeding distribution in Svalbard. Northern Gannet, Common Gull and Lesser Black-backed Gull are species that annually nest only on Bjørnøya. The Great Northern Diver is only found breeding on Bjørnøya, but is still considered an irregular breeding bird also there. The Great Northern Diver is suspected to be breeding at a few sites on Spitsbergen. European Herring Gull (a few) breed primarily on Bjørnøya, but is also found breeding a few places elsewhere in Svalbard. Redwing is considered an irregular and rare breeding bird, and the species is found breeding at Kapp Linné, on Bjørnøya and in Adventdalen. Common Redpoll and Arctic Redpoll are not included in this category, although these are irregular, but probably very few, breeding birds.
